How is Planet FWD’s Carbon Accounting Software Different?

Rigorous, standards-aligned life cycle assessments can help you reduce the impact of your products and company more effectively than spend-based carbon accounting

Share it!

If you’re a consumer business, ~90% of your carbon impact comes from hard-to-measure Scope 3 emissions.

Historically, most carbon measurement has used imprecise spend-based accounting methods. The biggest problem? Spend-based accounting doesn’t get into the fine details of your supply chain, from farming practices to specific processing steps, leaving important impact details behind.

Enter Life Cycle Assessment-based measurement.

This method of accounting unlocks deep Scope 3 insights at the ingredient and supplier level to accelerate your progress on decarbonization.

Planet FWD can provide you with the data and tools to truly understand the impacts of your supply chain and help you develop a plan to reduce your emissions. Our AI-powered decarbonization platform is built upon our proprietary LCA database, enabling us to surface very specific recommendations for decarbonization.

Planet FWD can also support companies with Corporate GHG Inventory across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. This level of measurement is critical for reporting and setting emissions reduction targets. Our Scope 3 decarbonization solution can surface the most granular emissions reduction actions across your business.

The integration of product-level Life Cycle Assessments paired with Corporate GHG Inventories allows you to understand all emissions drivers down to the farm level.

Our technology aggregates recommendations for you based on the most impactful levers for emissions reductions. This includes how different farming practices and inputs, processing methods and energy sources, processing locations, and other partners could reduce emissions. And with supplier-specific data, you can understand the impacts of different suppliers and scenario-plan based on your specific supply chain.

You may be asking "why this is something you need to add to your already long to-do list?"

While historically GHG emissions reporting has been somewhat voluntary, the tides are turning and regulation is being set.

Recently, stringent climate regulation has emerged out of California and Europe that would require Scope 3 emissions disclosure for both public and private companies. The California Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (CCAA) and the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) have prompted companies around the world to prepare for mandatory reporting, which will begin as soon as 2024. Planet FWD’s Corporate Inventory solution provides a streamlined approach to Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reporting and reduction and can help your company prepare to meet forthcoming climate disclosure regulations.

Many global food and beverage companies have made a net zero commitment with limited insight on how to achieve it. At Planet FWD, we've worked with global leaders in food and beverage at various stages of their climate strategies to get on track to meet their targets.

For one multi-million dollar operation, our emissions reduction analysis surfaced opportunities for over 25% total reduction of Scope 3.

We can also work with companies who may have varying levels of information from suppliers. For customers that have limited supply chain data, Planet FWD’s LCA database provides insights on average emissions and the most common sourcing locations for particular commodities. This gives customers a realistic understanding of emissions hotspots without having to work with individual suppliers. These insights enable companies to narrow in on the most impactful opportunities for engaging with their supply chains. For customers that have more detailed supply chain data, companies or their suppliers can use our software to model emissions from supplier-specific and farm-level practices. This allows customers to recognize emissions reductions from their and supplier efforts.

The time is now.

If you’re curious about getting started on your climate journey or looking to expand your action pathway, now is the perfect time.

By providing in-depth results across corporate and product-level emissions, Planet FWD can quickly identify emissions hotspots and key opportunities for decarbonization. Our scenario planning tools enable you to see how making specific swaps and changes to your current process impacts total emissions. Whether you have 10 products or 100,000, we can help you up-level your climate action plans, meet your targets, instill confidence in investors, and credibly communicate environmental impact to consumers.
